Operationalising 'The Creative Living Centre'
To overcome the limitations of institutionalized rehabilitation Centers, an alternative is visualized through establishing the ‘FLY’ Creative Living Centre. The FLY would not stipulate permanent residence (which is considered natural and compulsory at Rehabilitation centers) at the center by all the inmates once they are enrolled. Brief residential camps and workshops stretching over three to four weeks would be the setting for co-living, experience sharing, mutual encouragement, fetching brand new avenues for exploration in thinking and creative efforts. These camps will be structured in such a manner that it would create a natural urge to over come the conditioned helplessness towards barriers, bodily, mental and physical. Since there is an emerging and urgent need for bringing together home and the FLY for addressing the needs of physically challenged, the FLY would initiate and conduct awareness and empowerment programmers for family members and others. FLY intends to provide house-extension service of facilities and services so that the challenged ones can acquire the basic skills, capacities and mental strength for independent and self reliant living. 'The Creative Living Centre' should be positioned in a calm, pleasant and open atmosphere, preferably with trees and natural vegetation. The buildings shouldn’t have physical barriers in terms of steps, staircase etc and have ramps, open halls, private rest rooms and bathrooms where movement is easier. The FLY shall have basic amenities in terms of rest rooms, toilets, bathrooms, conference hall, kitchen, dining room, electricity, equipments, first aid and emergency medical equipments, support equipments and a library. The FLY should also provide necessary medical support and medicines in addition to food and refreshments. All these facilities would be become operational only if dedicated personnel, support team and friends become an integral part of FLY in planning, designing and implementing the Vision.
